Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Garden Chronicles

Gardening

Four quarts of tomatoes, four pints of dilled green beans (Bloody Mary garnish) and ten quarts of corn relish.

Another sixteen pints of Polish dills in the cellar too.

This week a cardboard beer case was filled with summer squash - those cute little Patty Pans.  Cantaloupe, watermelons and pie pumpkins are very close to harvest.

This has been a phenomenal year.  Everything is weeks ahead of schedule and truthfully it's caught me a bit off-guard.

I was talking with my neighbor, Pierre the sweet corn grower, the other day about my raccoon problem last year.  He assured me that I should just purchase fresh-picked bicolor sweet corn from him and forget about the raccoon hazard.

He charged me eight bucks for twenty-six giant ears of succulent sweet corn.

The nerve.
