Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

Camp Meat

Deer Camp

If I am not mistaken the term Camp Meat refers to the alleged practice of shooting a deer, skipping the step of registering it and butchering it for general camp consumption.

That practice is forbidden here.  Nonetheless, since I believe I am the interim camp cook  I fret over how we're going to feed ourselves here at camp.  I've been puttering in the kitchen this morning assembling a couple of pheasant pot pies.  I deboned a pair of of Dakota birds along with garden squash, potatoes, peas and more.

Mennonite has drawn first blood - arriving only a few moments ago with a deer on the back of the four-wheeler.

It's already warming nicely outside so there will be some butchering after the deer is taken to town and registered.

And since no deer camp is ever without the unexpected there is also a stray kitten who seems to have adopted Girlfriend as a surrogate mother.

A camp cat.
