Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

Critters, Deer Camp

Yesterday afternoon I was observing all of the birds in this planting of prairie grass.

You can't see them - but they're in there for sure.  Lots of them too.

They were darting about maybe feeding on the seed heads. Who knows.

All of a sudden there was a tidal wave of birds fleeing from the grass and making directly for me and the tall trees and shrubby cover along the creek.  A literal tsunami of birds.  I'm thinking - what the heck is this all about?

Then it became clear as a Northern Harrier floated into the wind across the top of the grass.  How all of those song birds knew that a predator was stalking them I'll never know.  But they sure vamoosed when the raptor showed-up.

Mennonite is certainly at the top of his game.

He dropped another deer this morning.

A fruitful deer camp so far.
