Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

Stranded

Deer Camp, Friends, Hunt'n

The UPS man delivered a holiday gift last week.

Two entire slabs of bacon from Esicar's Smokehouse in Cape Girardeau, MO.

This is a year's supply of bacon.

Jill said I should take the bacon with me for the guys at deer camp this weekend. We were to eat our fill and freeze the rest for when the garden tomatoes arrive next summer.

A BLT sounds pretty good to me right now because I'm watching the wind howl outside the window.  25 to 30 MPH sustained winds with gusts of over 40 MPH.  And more than 10 inches of snow.

The drifts are already three feet above the porch,  four feet in front of the machine shed and Braumeister's car is slowly - but  surely - becoming buried in the accumulating snow.

There's no hunting today for sure.  And Brau, NewGuy, the U-Boat Commander and I figure we're going to be snow-bound for a spell.

I think we'll be OK for the duration of the emergency.

We won't run out of beer or bacon.

Edit - 9 PM

About the remaining two food groups - coffee and chocolate - we're all set.   Any Boy Scout worth his salt knows to Be Prepared.
