Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

A Public Service Announcement

Gas Pains

I was speaking with someone over at The Mothership the other day and wasn't at all surprised to learn that WauwatosaNOW continues to be the most popular of all of the community websites.

I was also told that the collection of bloggers here happens to garner more readers than any of the other NOW sites as well.

That would place us in the Pole Position.  For as long as I've been keeping track of this we remain Numero Uno.

Yep.  Even mo bettah than our neighbors to the west.

Tosa Rules.  Brookfield Drools.

You're probably scratching your head and wondering how this can be.

The way I figure it - since the template for each site is pretty much boilerplate technology and every NOW site covers local news and sports there has to be something else at work.  My hypothesis is that it probably has everything to do with the bloggers.  We're also unique in that we have a Tosa Town Square where even the common peasants of the kingdom can blog about just about anything.

Did you know that Brookfield used to have a Town Square?  Yes indeed.  But it was shut down when anarchy reigned in their kingdom.  I chalk it up to poor social skills.

Our leadership in the virtual world probably also has something to do with the fact that we and our Tosa readers are brighter, more talented, have higher standards and actually deliver useful information.  We publish stuff that entertains, informs, challenges you to think or can make your life a little easier.

No lazy cut-and-paste blogging here.  Not a chance.  Furthermore, we don't drool.

Take this for instance.

The Wisconsin Legislative Notification Service has resumed for the 2011-12 legislative session.

If you haven't been using this you really need to sign-up so that you can keep a sharp eye on what's happening in Madison when you're not looking.

All you have to do is click on the link above and register.  You can set your preferences to receive an email notification by author, committee, subject, bill number, key word, you name it.

For example - if I want to know about any legislation introduced by my State Senator Leah Vukmir all I have to do is add her to my list of authors.  If I want to be notified of anything a committee is up to I can add that particular committee.  Let's say I want to be notified of legislation that has to do with deer or deer hunting.  All I have to do is add those as key words.  You also get to choose at what level of the legislative process you wish to receive a notification.

It's a nifty service.  Delivered directly to your in-box at an interval of your choosing.  I prefer every morning because I like to check my email first thing over coffee while lounging in my pajamas.

So be sure to sign-up

And thank you for reading.

Hey!  Where's the Friday morning music?  What gives?

The music is taking the day-off.  You get a PSA instead.
