A $1.25 million budget hole.  Yikes.

I was reminded of this at the last candidate forum held on March 26th.  The condition of our city finances are depressing for sure.

Nevertheless, today I bear tidings of good news.  And merchandise.

Two entire semi-trailers jam-packed to the rear doors with the Wauwatosa Police Department's signature glassware!  Handsomely etched with the Tosa PD seal.

Yup.  Just like me, you can imbibe in your favorite adult beverage (or iced tea or lemonade) in an official WPD cocktail tub, wine or pint beer glass.

Here’s an advance peek at what they look like…

You are really going to want to get your hands on a set of the red wine glasses.  No champagne flutes.  At least not just yet.  There are heavy-duty shot glasses however.  Extra thick with the ability to hold-up to flaming shooters.

They'll be going on sale beginning tomorrow in an effort to plug that giant budget hole.  No bake sale for this forward-thinking burg.  Here is something just about everyone can use.  I predict that they'll be so popular among the good people that take such pride in this fair city that they'll literally fly out the door.

When asked to comment on this innovative and alternate revenue source Chief Barry Weber had this to say - Please support our sales efforts and stock-up on WPD barware while it lasts.  However, if you’re going to imbibe, please drink responsibly.  Don't make me have to arrest you and throw you in our hoosegow.

The staff at Gas Pains caught up with the very busy acting mayor Eric Meaux.  His response - Sure, one way to meet our gaping budget hole is to cut vital services and raise everyone's taxes. City staff felt that a creative approach to seeking alternate sources of revenue might lighten the load.  Our high profile professional police department seemed like a good place to start.  It’s not just about writing more speeding and parking tickets anymore.

Requests for comment from both the Donegan and Ehley campaigns were not returned.

So, here's the deal.  Each of the four types of glassware are available in sets of six.  $18.95 for the pint beer, hi-ball glasses or very sturdy red wine goblets.  A six-pack of shot glasses is $9.95.

You can purchase* them over the counter at either the City Clerk’s office on the second floor of City Hall or the Wauwatosa Police Department at 1700 N. 116th Street.  Unless preoccupied with keeping the peace, patrol officers will cheerfully be selling them out of the trunk of their cruisers.  If, as expected, the initial inventory should sell-out you can place a back order with your alderperson for guaranteed delivery before July 4th.

Cheers!

*Visa, MasterCard or personal check accepted.  Patrol officers may not accept cash.
