Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

Cheap Date

Archery, Cheap Date, Friends, The Hunger Games

As I've been getting back in my groove my buddy Braumeister and I have gotten back to shooting arrows once a week.

Back in the day we actually had enough people to shoot in a league - but it's gotten harder to come-up with a consistent foursome that can make the time to shoot on a weekly basis.  Sigh.

So we make do with just the two of us.  And on occasion - Smokey Joe joins us.

It's good recreation.  There's physical activity, concentration, sharpening of useful skills that translate into venison for table fare and maybe even a bear later this year.  Besides, it's a guy's night out followed by dinner and some stimulating political chat.

I've noticed more adolescent girls on the range than any previous time.

From what I've read - the upcoming Olympics and box office hit - The Hunger Games - have conspired to make archery popular amongst youngsters - especially young women and girls.

I'm heartened by this turn of events.

Thirty minutes on West Town Archery's Dart Video range - Five bucks a guy.

Dinner and tip at Sluggo's - ten to fifteen bucks each.

Total comes to twenty bucks - tops.

It may not be priceless but it's a good dollar value.

What do you do with your friends on a regular basis?
