Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

Friday Morning Music - The French Connection

Dead People, Friday Morning Music, James Morrison, The Doors, People Are Strange

Barely a couple of weeks ago Jill and I hopped on the Paris #69 bus (just down the block from our hotel outside of the Place des Vosges) and traveled to the end of the line – to Père Lachaise Cemetery – the largest graveyard in Paris.

My regular readers already know I like nothing better than a good graveyard.

Since 1804 all sort of famous, near-famous, infamous and anonymous are interred, entombed, or inurned here.  Including Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Frédéric Chopin, Molière, Héloïse et Abélard, Colette, Georges Eugène Baron Haussmann, Honoré de Balzac, Ferdinand de Lesseps, Gioachino Rossini (his remains have been moved to Florence but the mausoleum remains) and many more.

You will find holocaust memorials, memorials to those of the French resistance executed by the Gestapo and the unidentified remains of war dead.

Here is Jill at the grave of Jim Morrison.

In homage to 60's popular culture it's time to crank-up the volume on our workstations and start the weekend with Echo and the Bunnymen covering The Doors' - People Are Strange...
