Gas Pains

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

Weekend With the Ladies

Labrador Retrievers, Life Is Good, Winter

Yup.  Nothing better.

I scored a weekend alone with my girls.  The four-legged ones.

Girlfriend and Sister and I have been chilling at the farm and embracing winter.  Strapping on the snowshoes and tromping the trails.  About a mile and a quarter round trip.  The only thing my Labs like more than water or hunting is winter and the snow that comes with it.  The deeper the better.

One of my ever-vigilant trail cameras captured the girls charging about in the drifts.

For sure it's been in the single digits during daylight hours but the dogs don't mind at all.  Labrador retrievers and cold weather mix just about as well as a perfectly-poured martini by the resident mixologist.  Over ice.  And we enjoyed a couple of those last night along with a hand-cut ribeye steak from the local butcher shop.  Grilled rare.

Evenings bring plunging negative temperatures.  But they also bring a fire in the woodburner, a good book, maybe a movie on internet television.  And snoring dogs.

Winter.  Embrace it.  Loving it.
