Gas Pains
Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.
Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.
A Tosa Veteran
March 18, 1943
I am very sorry that I haven't written you before this but you know that my letters come to the whole family as well as to whom they are sent. Thanks though for writing me even though I am a jerk and don't write back.
This is from a three page letter sent by my uncle Bob (Robert McNulty) to my mom (Grace McNulty) during wartime Tosa.
The McNultys lived at 63rd and McKinley back then. (The extended clan's roots in Tosa grow deep). As I have been slowly sorting through stuff collected by my parents over the years I periodically discover a gem like this letter originating in Great Lakes, IL from a brother in boot camp to a teenage sister back home. Add some photos and it's like taking a trip back in space and time.
Tell Rita to tell him the navy is really the place. I thank my lucky stars every day for putting me here instead of the army. There isn't much news and anyway I told it to the folks and they will tell you anyway. See you next Sunday.
Love,
Bob
It's Veterans Day. Thanks to all who have served.
