On The Road Again - The Trouble With Seafood

Life Is Good, Terrific Cooking, Travel

One of the problems with being on vacation is trying to figure out where your next meal is coming from.

I am being serious.

Sometimes the fishing is slow and you might actually have to resort to an alternate plan and purchase your dinner.

You're thinking -  Big deal.  I can go to Metcalf's Sentry anytime I feel like it and pick-up something for dinner.  I do it all the time.

And my snarky reply would be -Yeah.  But can you walk over to where the shrimp boats dock?

And purchase your shrimp directly from the shrimp man?

And bring it home and cook it on the grill?

And serve it-up with beans and rice and wash it down with an icy-cold Tecate?

Flummoxed - you're thinking - OK.  I get your point, Tom.  Stop rubbing it in.  Just explain to me where the trouble is that you speak of.

Technically there are troubles.

To begin - the shrimp man charges something like an outrageous three dollars a pound for these freshly-caught crustaceans.

Imagine that.  The nerve!

Then you have to haul them back to camp and clean those giant fresh shrimp.

Tough, tough work.

May I have another Tecate, please?

Say - speaking of shrimp - Private Buford "Bubba" Blue waxes eloquently on the subject.
