Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

On The Road Again - Island Life

Fish'n, Family, Life Is Good

As our stay on Grand Isle drew to a close one of the fellas on the block said - Tom, you're a helluva fisherman. You fit right in with us folks.  You even speak some French.  You should buy a place down here.

I turn to my wife.

Hon, can we mortgage the house to purchase a trailer on stilts located on a hurricane-prone Louisiana barrier island?

I get the  look.

As per usual she was correct in her estimation of the situation.

The drive is too far.

The truth of the matter is that as long as the next hurricane doesn't sweep-away the neighborhood we'll come back.

It has been a terrific opportunity to savor the Cajun culture and the great outdoors.

Speaking of outdoors - don't you think that kids nowadays spend too much time indoors?

After-all - what can be more fun than sitting on the pier and fishing with grandma and Girlfriend?

I suppose having a school of bottle-nose dolphins swim-up to the pier would be pretty cool.

For kids and adults.

And if you are a Labrador retriever it doesn't get any better than walking on the beach and locating a dead pelican to roll in.

Blech.

But mostly it is that walk on the beach.

With family.

Island life...

Gotta love it.

Last road trip post coming-up.
