Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Other Moms

Girlfriend, Just For Fun, Outdoors, Critters

Yesterday Girlfriend and I went for a walk in the woods.

It was a long meandering walk with the pooch following her nose.

With camera in hand I thought we just might be lucky enough to find a newborn fawn.  After-all with Mother's Day at hand mama deer might have a  just-in-time delivery.

No fawns on this excursion but we didn't return home empty-handed either.  My advice - always look beneath that wonderful wildlife tree - the white spruce.

Someone once said that all mothers are working moms.

Outdoor moms have their work cut-out for them.

Since today is mom's special day I want to take the opportunity to salute those unsung moms who toil under a different set of conditions to rear their young...

Wild moms.

Like mama mourning dove

And mama wild turkey

How cunningly nature hides every wrinkle of her inconceivable antiquity under roses and violets and morning dew.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
