Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Garden Chronicles

Gardening, Outdoors

Everything seems to have fallen into place and on-schedule.  Mind you this garden is about 150 miles north of Tosa so the growing season starts a tad later and ends a bit sooner.

It has been dry as dust lately with only about a half-inch of rainfall in the past seven weeks.

And cool too.

My lovely wife has been irrigating the garden early every morning.  All the better to keep everything growing.  The trouble is the cool summer.  Last month was the third coldest July since someone started keeping records of such stuff.

That's not so good for the tomatoes or the watermelon which are begging for hot days and sultry nights.

Nonetheless the cool weather crops have flourished.

I'm talking about stuff like cabbages and broccoli-

Isn't that a handsome broccoli?

And these sexy scalloped squash-

Or this enormous pile of green beans gathered from one picking of half of the bean plants-

And bales of yummy spinach-

Send me some rain and some of that global warming please.

Edit- Got a half-inch of glorious rain last night.  Looks like more is on the  way.
