Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Tea Party Express

Roadside Curiosities, Silly People, Strange But True

I've ridden a pile of buses in my life.

Plenty of yellow, bone-shattering school buses.  Freezing in the winter and broiling in the summer.  Life was rough.

As a kid of about 9 years of age mom used to give me bus fare and money for lunch at Woolworth's and send me off to the Milwaukee Public Museum for a day.  Life was good.

There was that awesome VW micro-bus from my college days.  Icebox, stereo, double bed in the back.  Mercy - life was really, really good!

As a young adult,  I once went to a Badger game on a bus and someone slapped a half of a baloney sandwich (baloney-side-down) on the window of the bus and it survived the post-game ride all the way back to Milwaukee.  Life was exciting.

As a mature adult I took a bus trip to Lutsen, MN to go skiing and the Flight For Life helicopter mechanic was over served and spent the trip wearing a quilted chicken toaster cozy on his head.  Life was weird.

Nowadays I ride some city's public bus to get from here to there when I'm traveling.  My wife and I have even figured out how to take the bus from La Guardia to Grand Central Station, and back.  I admit it - we're cheap and life has become very practical.

Yet sometimes I think that life's weirdness follows me around.

Which is why you should never go about life without a bunch of cheap digital cameras or a smart phone so you can document these occasions.

Today a stumbled across three really cool buses next to the gym.

The Tea Party buses.

Do you think the Tea Party people actually party in them?

I wonder.  These were some awesome buses.  Just like rock star party buses with windows you can't see into to check-out what the occupants are doing.

Inquiring minds want to know.

What do you think Joe the Plumber does on the bus?

Does he plot nuclear arms strategy and second-guess the President or the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

Or does he party?

That's good old Joe - the political future of the GOP - top row, second from the right.

And there is Sarah Palin - lower, right hand corner.

I like Governor Palin.  Not as leader of the free world.  I think she's better-suited as a daytime talk show host.  She could help to fill that vast wasteland of daytime television while the rest of us working stiffs are paying the country's bills.

Dontcha think?

Here's what I'm really itching to know.

Who gets to drive this?

They better not be partying 'cause this puppy is traveling a great deal faster than the bus...
