Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Garden Chronicles

Gardening

The B.A.G. is comfortably established.

Everything is either up and growing or has been transplanted.  I've even had to mound my potato rows twice already.

In the main garden there is decorative corn, pie pumpkins, cantaloupe, watermelon, scallop squash, acorn squash, pickles, three varieties of potatoes, three varieties of onions, peas, cabbages, collards, beets, spinach, carrots, green beans, radishes and twenty-two tomato plants.

More green beans will be planted in the next couple of weeks followed by Chinese cabbage and additional lettuces.

The kitchen garden has the asparagus patch, two varieties of cherry tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, lettuces and is chock-full of herbs.

Jill tends this and has taken over the planting and tending of the decorative gourd and pumpkin patches.

While the asparagus and rhubarb have played-out there are now fresh radishes and lettuce.

For you home gardeners out there you might consider planting an extra row for the hungry.
