Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Blog and Blogging

Gas Pains, County Executive Walker, Mayor Didier, Representative Vukmir, Senator Sullivan

Some of you may have noticed that Gas Pains has gotten a face-lift.  Literally.

I have finally gotten around to changing that awful mug shot and replaced with something that better reflects my likeable nature.  Since that photo was snapped at a festival you have my festival look.  I will endeavor to change it periodically.  Maybe even seasonally.

I read something last evening that I found interesting.  Demographic data concerning bloggers published by the social media consulting firm Sysomos.

As it turns-out, the 21 to 35 year-old cohort constitutes the majority of all bloggers - 53.3 percent.

Only 7.1 percent of bloggers are older than 51.  Since this is my cohort that makes me a rarer commodity.

Bloggers are about evenly distributed between males and and the fairer sex.

About one-third of all bloggers hail from the USA.  This figure is quadruple that of Britain which ranks second.

In the Sysomos Twitter Report there is a huge amount of data on the Twittering hordes.  If you want a summary without making your head hurt you should go to the Appendix for reference with complete list of graphs.

Alas, for me, Twitter is verboten.  The lawyers at the day job have forbidden me from tweeting.  But I'm OK with that since I readily admit to being delayed in developing my social media skills.  I can barely maintain my LinkedIn account so I'm not even going to consider Facebook.

Lest you think I am a complete technological philistine I have a Blackberry device, a laptop and three additional PCs.  I have successfully parlayed all of this techno-power to recruit sixty-three readers.

A couple of months ago I was at the Wauwatosa Distinguished Citizen recognition dinner featuring my pal Dick Bachman.  I was there with Jill.  Not the Mayor Jill - but my wife Jill.  Although the Mayor was there too.  Along with everyone else.  Scott Walker, Jim Sullivan, Leah Vukmir and a veritable parade of other local personalities.

I had a nice chat with the County Executive, the State Senator the State Representative and the Mayor.   Get this.  Leah Vukmir reads this blog.  Yes she does.  She volunteered that to me.  I told her that this revelation made her my official sixtieth reader.  She and Jim Sullivan agreed to be interviewed sometime between now and the November election.  So if anyone has any brilliant ideas for interview topics I'm all ears.

On the other hand the Mayor tells me she's still much too busy to be a reader.  I only wish I could lure her over to the Dark Side.
