WHS Adoptable Animals

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. For more than 128 years, WHS has been saving the lives of animals in need. We offer adoption services that place 9,000 animals in new homes annually, veterinary services that save thousands of lives, educational programs that instill respect for animals, behavior services to assist guardians and a myriad of other initiatives that help end suffering for animals. We depend entirely on private donations to fund our programs and rely on volunteers in nearly every department. If you are interested in adopting, volunteering, enrolling in a class, taking a tour or making a donation, check out our comprehensive web site at wihumane.org. The adoptable animals' web pages are updated every 30 minutes!

Meet Cocoa

Princess, a 3-year-old Chihuahua at the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS), is eagerly awaiting a new home and will likely be adopted in just a few short days. Her sister isn’t so lucky.

Cocoa and Princess were surrendered because their previous family simply did not want them anymore. Why they were so unloved is a mystery. Anybody would be lucky to have either one of these spunky, affectionate girls.

Just as Princess sailed into adoption with a clean bill of health, Cocoa hit a roadblock. WHS veterinarians discovered that Cocoa had a painful hip problem. The joint was disintegrating, and her femur and hip were rubbing against each other, causing Cocoa to wince as she walked. It would continue to get worse. Cocoa needed surgery.

Cocoa recently underwent the specialized surgery like a champ! She is currently recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of the Wisconsin Humane Society. The cost of Cocoa's surgery and medical care is expected to reach about $1,500 and donations are being solicited to cover her special medical expenses.

WHS is accepting donations for Cocoa online, by mail or by phone at (414) 431-6121. WHS receives no government funding and relies entirely on the local community for support.

Princess is one of dozens of puppies and dogs looking for a home today.  Interested in adopting? Visit www.wihumane.org, which is updated every 30 minutes with adoptable animals.
