WHS Adoptable Animals

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. For more than 128 years, WHS has been saving the lives of animals in need. We offer adoption services that place 9,000 animals in new homes annually, veterinary services that save thousands of lives, educational programs that instill respect for animals, behavior services to assist guardians and a myriad of other initiatives that help end suffering for animals. We depend entirely on private donations to fund our programs and rely on volunteers in nearly every department. If you are interested in adopting, volunteering, enrolling in a class, taking a tour or making a donation, check out our comprehensive web site at wihumane.org. The adoptable animals' web pages are updated every 30 minutes!

Wisconsin & Ozaukee Humane Societies Give Be Kind to Animals Week Awards

To celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week, May 2-8, 2010, the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies are each holding contests for local children, teachers, volunteers and members of the community who have exemplified kindness to animals.

Awards will be given to the Humane Educator of the Year, Humane Hero, Animal Hero and to winners of the kids poster, poetry and photography contests. This year’s theme is “Take Time to Be Kind.”

Milwaukee radio legend Carol Caine from FM 96.5-WKLH will be the emcee for the award ceremony on Saturday, May 1 at the Grafton Legion Hall for the Ozaukee Humane Society, and Channel 4’s Morning Blend hostess extraordinaire, Molly Fay, will be hosting the award ceremony at the Wisconsin Humane Society on Sunday, May 2.

Be Kind to Animals Week is the oldest celebrated week in the nation. Recognized officially by the 108th Congress in 1915, this special week continues to remind us of the things animals do to enhance our lives. Each year the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies encourage students and teachers to join the celebration.

Deadline for all entries is Friday, April 2, 2010. Visit www.wihumane.org to learn more about the contest at WHS; visit www.ozaukeehumane.org if you live in Ozaukee County.  Guidelines and entry information also available by calling (414) 431-6153 or (414) 431-6159.
