The 99th running of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Cross Country Championships and the 39th Annual Girls Cross Country Championships will take place Saturday at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

The girls will run a 4,000-meter course, and the boys will run a 5,000-meter course. The following is a listing of the times for each race: Division 1 girls run at 12:20 p.m. and D1 boys at 2:20 p.m.

There are 20 teams contending for the State championship in Division 1 for boys and girls, Teams competing for the titles qualified last weekend at their respective sectional meets - The top two teams in each of the 10 Division 1 sectionals included the Brookfield Central boys and girls and the Wauwatosa East boys (first time since 1990).

In addition to the qualifying teams, the first five individual finishers at their respective sectionals, who are not a member of a qualifying team, also qualified for the State meet. For my Brookfield and Tosa schools that included Brad Johnson and Stephen Browne of Brook East and Patrick Campbell and Taylor Floyd-Mews for the boys and Madeline Timm and Shannon Cashin for the Brook East girls.

Wausau East won its second consecutive Division 1 girls team title by scoring 60 points, 12 points ahead of runner-up Neenah with 72 points.

Arrowhead won the Division 1 boys team title last year with 82 points, one point less than runner-up Marquette.

The WIAA website experts list Brook Central junior Carl Hirsch among the contenders for high honors.

Sophomore Elizabeth Flatley of Brookfield Central, who was seventh last year, is listed among the girls contenders.
