Some tourney thoughts on a busy day

I've been running around watching boys and girls postseason basketball and it's been a busy week.

Most disappointing game was the first one, watching an improved Tosa East girls team fail to show up against a not-so-good (I'm being polite here) Milwaukee Lutheran team (2-20) on Tuesday and losing a 65-58 decision. To give up 65 points to this team was terrible. But it was a nice gift for Red Knights coach Randy Clinard, who is hanging it up.

East's Katie Salmon was remarkable, scoring 27 points, 12 in the fourth period, as she did everything she could to win the game for the Red Raiders. If I coached this team (which would be bad for any team, of course), I would let Salmon take 40 shots a game.

Thusday night I saw Tosa East boys lose to Milwaukee Washington, 60-36, as they fell behind early, 28-9, at half-time. It was the story of the Red Raiders' season. Dig a deeeeeeeeep hole and try to battle back. It ain't going to happen against the Purgolders, whose offense consisted of stealing the ball and slam dunking it or working it around the court and throwing up a 3-pointer.

It would have been nice if the Red Raiders could have finished the season with a full boat, but that was not to be.

Last night I saw Tosa West girls whip Milwaukee Juneau, 47-25, to advance to tonight's regional finals at Wisconsin Lutheran. First-year coach Ron Gavinski has done a good job in his first season. The Trojans played good defense abd blew out the Eagles with a 12-2 run to start the third period.

This afternoon I saw Dominican clobber Howard's grove, 78-47, as junior sensation Duane Wilson had 30 points and Tosa's Diamond Stone had 16. The Knights will be making their first trip to state since 2008.

I asked someone in the Dominican party who they lost to and they said Germantown. I told them, don't worry about that, there are a lot of teams that have done that the last two years.

Tonight I will be covering New Berlin West and Catholic Memorial. The Vikes will be looking for revenge since the Crusaders beat them a few weeks ago in a non-conference game.

As my kids would say 'Peace out.'
