Random thoughts before wedding 3

Published on: 5/24/2012

I'm stepping on a plane in a few hours with my family to fly to California where my oldest son Marty is getting married on Memorial Day. That's 3 weddings in 3 years. My IRA has turned into my wedding fund. My wife didn't tell me about this stuff when she said she wanted 4 kids.

I thought I woud share some thoughts with you before I left.

I find it interesting that my Tosa West girls soccer team was unbeaten (9-0-2) in conference and lost the title to a team that was (10-1) and it was the Trojans who beat that team. The reason - a point system that awards 3 points for wins and 1 for a tie. So the first place team had 30 points and the unbeaten team, which beat the first place team, had 29.  The good news for me is that first place team is also my team - New Berlin Eisenhower, which made it easier to take.

One of the hottest tennis players in the area is Flex Corwin of Brookfield East. The sophomore beat Damon Niquet - last year's state champ - for the GMC title and won won the sectional title on Wednesday.

New Berlin West nipped Eisenhower, 2-1, in an exciting softball game. But there were seven errors in the game and that needs to be cleaned up in the postseason. It was a huge win for the Vikings who hadn't beat Ike in over 20 years according to West coach Corey Scheel's records.

NB West's Luke Hubert continues his run and he shoots for a state title by winning the sectional. He hasn't lost all season.

Golfer Eddie Wajda of Brookfield Central and Bryan Kendall of Brookfield East got their teams into next week's sectional.

Congrats to Jason Burdge and the Lancers for winning the GMC girls soccer title. The Lancers biggest challenger in the postseaon will be a dangerous DSHA team which they edged, 1-0, in the regular season, the Dashers' only conference loss.

A tip of the hat to first-year coach Doug Lange's Lancer softball team. Filled with sophomores and one senior (Anna Liewen) and junior slugger Carley Sobrilsky, this young squad finished 10-9 and 8-6 in conference. Should have a bright future.

Today's track sectionalsat Waukesha North should be fun for Brookfield East and Brookfield Central who should send several boys and girls to next week's state tournament.

Speaking of young teams, Tosa East's girls soccer team is filled with young players and Lauren Cervero's team came right down to the last day with a chance to win the GMC.

Both TE and TW softball teams had losing records but improved tremendously, as the Trojans set a mark for most wins (10). Progress is important.

Good luck to the outstanding TE & TW track athletes at today's sectional at Waukesha North. Max Kilpin - TE high jumper - is looking to get a chance to win the state title. He has the second-best leap (6-9) in the state this year and hasn't lost a meet he competed in.

I missed a lot of kudos, so don't take it personal - but it's to head out.

California, here I come. See you in June.
