Il Mito Trattoria E Enoteca
6913 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa (414) 443-1414

On warm weekend nights, crowds gather along the sidewalk on N. 68th St. north of Wells. They are waiting for a table at Balistreri's. And what they're waiting for is a chance to bite into the full-flavored yet light pizzas produced by this popular restaurant. In addition to pizza, the menu includes an array of pastas and sandwiches. See full review | Restaurant's web site

Juniper 61

6030 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa (414) 727-6161

Wauwatosans and westsiders, it seemed, were hungry for something more than dinner, and they've found it in Juniper 61: a casual restaurant close to home with flavorful food - its menu tilts toward sandwiches under $10, but it also serves several entrées, all under $20 - in a setting with a coolness quotient. Le Reve
7610 Harwood Ave., Wauwatosa (414) 778-3333

The first thing you do when you enter Le Reve Patisserie & Café is seat yourself. And if there are no seats - it can happen in this popular 80-seat restaurant in Wauwatosa's village district - well, then, find a comfortable wall to lean against and wait. That's what everyone else is doing, and any wait is worth it. See full review | Restaurant's web site

Mekong Café
5930 W. North Ave., Milwaukee (414) 257-2228

You could study your ethnic choices at a table near the windows dressed coyly in café curtains, or near a striking wall that looks like a work in progress - with segments of faux brick painting and patching - but is quite finished, a server says. Then settle on something to drink - a cold, milky Thai tea, maybe, or a Beer Lao. And then choose some appetizers. No fewer than 18 first courses are listed, along with several soups. 5921 W. Vliet St., Milwaukee (414) 479-0620

Its draw is a well-rounded, creative menu that emphasizes foods in season, many of them locally produced, and specials that always include a vegetarian option, a meat and fish. The menu changes every three to four months, so if you find a favorite dish, enjoy it while you can; it could be gone on your next visit. See full review | Restaurant's web site
