Meeting focuses on proposed gypsy moth treatments

Aerial spraying to control gypsy moth caterpillars has been proposed for areas of Wauwatosa.

A low-flying plane applies an insecticide that targets the caterpillars that defoliate trees. Typically, the process happens early in the morning sometime in May or June.

Spraying is planned at Milwaukee County Zoo, 10001 W. Blue Mound Road, the neighborhood of 114th to 120th streets between North and Meinecke avenues, and Blue Mound Road to Underwood Parkway between 115th and 121st streets.

A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Muellner Building at Hart Park, 7300 Chestnut St., to talk about treatment program specifics. Land owners and residents within the proposed spraying area can request their properties not be sprayed by writing to Parks and Forestry Superintendent Ken Walbrant, 7300 W.
