Suspect connected to numerous burglaries

A man charged with burglaries in Menomonee Falls had been connected to numerous break-ins at Wauwatosa businesses this summer.

Scott Laskowski, 32, of Wauwatosa is sitting in Waukesha County Jail on two felony counts of burglary, felony possession of burglary tools and a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia. Charges were filed Monday.

Wauwatosa police are also pursuing charges for burglaries on North Avenue between the 66th and 88th streets and in the Village.

"We think he was good for about 20 (burglaries)," Wauwatosa Police Lt. Dennis Davidson said.

Both communities' departments put a lot of effort into patrol and surveillance knowing "it was only a matter of time before we found him," Davidson said.

The business burglaries date back to early July, when the rear door of Cosmo's Café, 7203W. North Ave., was pried open and cash was taken. The break-ins continued through Aug. 8.

Laskowski was allegedly caught on video at Harwood Hair Co. on July 20. A search warrant of his home led to a camera that had been taken from Alfa Flower Shop on July 31.

In some cases, entry was attempted and pry marks were found on doors. In other incidents, entry was gained but nothing was taken.

In addition to Cosmo's, police have accused Laskowski of taking money from Simma's Bakery, Tuesday's Child resale shop, Harwood Hair Co., Gracie's Boutique, Ace Drapery, The Flower Lady, Jenerations Family Hair Studio and Hui's restaurant.

"In each case the M.O. was very similar," Davidson said.
