Tosa saluted for its use of technology

June 1, 2012

The city has received a Salute to Government Award for its effective use of technology.

The Public Policy Institute, which looks for innovative initiatives in government, took note of Wauwatosa's culmination of a new technology network that allows wireless connectivity between municipal buildings and high-speed data replication.

The project was spurred by an $80,000 Homeland Security grant to install a new video surveillance system, which prompted city staff to use the opportunity to upgrade the rest of its information technology infrastructure, according to an announcement of the award winners.

Milwaukee County was also recognized for improvements in collecting delinquent taxes and going paperless to reduce expenses in the Treasurer's Office. Sue Black, director of Milwaukee County Parks, will receive the Norman N. Gill Award, to celebrate her 30 years of leadership in the park and recreation industry.
