Woman dies of apparent overdose three days after arrest for driving under the influence

A 48-year-old Milwaukee woman who was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs in Wauwatosa, died in her home three days later from an apparent overdose.

According to Wauwatosa Police Department reports:

A reckless driver with flat tires was pulled over at 60th and Wright streets at 12:27 p.m. July 29.

She was holding an empty Xanax bottle and stated she was looking for the Milwaukee Police Department to file a theft of prescription medication report. She said her pills were stolen during a house party the prior night.

She was seen striking the curb, getting out of the car and looking at the damage. After sitting in her car for a bit, she drove off again.

She had a prior driving under the influence arrest in April, but her court date was not scheduled until November, so this incident was considered a first offense.

Blood was drawn at Wisconsin Heart Hospital and a drug expert was called in to observe her.

On Aug. 2, Milwaukee police found the woman dead in her home, likely due to an overdose. However, it wasn't known whether the death was accidental or a suicide. The medical examiner is investigating.
