Wauwatosa police say 23-year-old steals $30,500 in jewelry from family friend

March 11, 2013

After four convictions for retail theft and allegedly stealing from multiple stores, police suspect a 23-year-old Wauwatosa woman stole from her father's family friend to pay for her heroin addiction.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

The woman knocked on her family friend's door in the 2400 block of Swan Boulevard and asked to use their phone. While thinking the situation was strange, the homeowner nonetheless let her use the phone while she was showering.

The woman said she just needed to call her father to have him pick her up.

The homeowner said she was running some errands and would be back shortly. She was gone for 10 minutes before she decided against leaving the family friend in her home alone. When she was driving back at 2:45 p.m. March 7, she saw the family friend walking away from the home.

Everything seemed fine until the homeowner got a call from the family friend's father saying not to let her in their home and that she was a heroin addict. The father then explained his daughter's criminal history, stating that she had stolen from him, his business, her grandfather and other family members. He explained that she was targeting family friends and they should search their home for any missing items.

The homeowners found that they were indeed missing items: $30,500 in jewelry.

The father found two missing items in his home, where his daughter was staying, and returned them. Police plan to contact the suspect about the thefts.
