City of Wauwatosa officials are asking residents to reduce their water use Thursday and Friday to lower the risk of sewer overflows and basement backups during heavy rain Thursday into Friday.

Suggested ways to reduce water, according to the city, include: taking shorter showers and skipping baths, turning off the water while brushing teeth or shaving, and delaying laundry or running the dishwasher until after the rain stops.

The city's new release also listed several tips to reduce the risk of basement flooding, such as checking that downspouts are connected and are draining away from the house.
