Wauwatosa police say woman drove past would-be burglars in her driveway

Aug. 19, 2013

A woman drove past two would-be burglars' jeep while it was parked in her driveway, missing them by mere seconds.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

The woman's neighbors were playing cards at 12:59 p.m. Aug. 10 when they noticed a gold-colored jeep pull into their neighbor's driveway in the 2300 block of North 115th Street.

Two men jumped out of the jeep; one climbed a fence to get to the back door, while the other walked to the front door.

They called police and noticed their neighbor, described as an elderly woman, drive around the jeep and into her garage.

The man at the front jumped into his jeep and drove off, making a hand signal to his partner that the neighbor believed meant for them to meet down the block.

The woman said she thought the jeep belonged to her daughter. Police observed her back door had pry marks on it.

The two men drove away, but not before the neighbors got their license plate. Police found later who the driver was and are investigating the incident.
