Sewage backups may occur with Wauwatosa sewer at full capacity

June 18, 2014

With the city of Wauwatosa's sanitary sewer system at full capacity and more rain in the forecast, city officials are warning residents that they may start seeing sewage backups in their basements.

In addition to moving valuable items, officials recommend several steps to mitigate basement flooding:

·Divert rainwater from your property with temporary extensions to your downspouts and sump pumps

·Clean sewer grates to allow rainwater to flow through them

·Refrain from running more water than necessary during or immediately after a storm

Public Works crews are responding to reports of street flooding, popped manhole covers and downed tree limbs blocking roads. To report flooding problems, call the city's 24/7 hotline at 414-471-8422.
