A former priest accused of bilking more than $100,000 from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa failed to appear in court for the second time Monday, WISN-TV (Channel 12) in Milwaukee reported.

The attorney representing James Dokos, Jr., 62, said his client was admitted to a hospital Monday morning, according to a story posted on the station's website.

Dokos was scheduled to appear in court last week, but his attorney said his car broke down, the station reported.

According to a criminal complaint, the theft was discovered by the church's parish council in 2013, months after Dokos, the priest at Annunciation for many years, had transferred to another church in Illinois.

Dokos is accused of diverting money from a trust a couple had left for the construction of a cultural center at the church while he was serving as successor trustee after the death of the trust's creator.

He spent the money on jewelry for his wife, high-end shopping, expensive restaurants and everyday bills, according to the complaint.
