Boy drowns in the Menomonee River at Hoyt Park

A 14-year-old boy drowned in the Menomonee River in Hoyt Park in Wauwatosa around 3 p.m. Saturday.

Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies received a 911 call that a group of children had gone swimming in the river and one did not resurface.

Members of the of the Wauwatosa and Milwaukee fire departments responded and the dive rescue team located the boy under water a short distance from where the children had last been seen. Medical personnel tried to revive him. He was transported to Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His name was not being released as of 6 p.m.

Detectives from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident.
