14-year-old arrested in connection to March 9 bomb threat at Wauwatosa West

The Wauwatosa Police Department arrested a 14-year-old it believes is responsible for a bomb threat at Wauwatosa West High School March 9.

Police, along with school resource officers, arrested the juvenile March 15. The 14-year-old is being referred to the Milwaukee County Children's Court for a felony bomb scare charge.

Police did not release the name of the suspect.

The minor is not believed to be responsible for the bomb threat made to the high school, 11400 W. Center St., on March 14. That incident, which caused authorities to evacuate the school for the remainder of the day after a written threat was found inside, is still under investigation, according to police.

The Wauwatosa Police Department is expected to release more information related to the incident next week, after the investigation is complete.

In an email to parents Thursday evening, Superintendent Phil Ertl said the student will be referred by Wauwatosa West High School to the district office for disciplinary action.

"I would like to thank the Wauwatosa school community for your patience as we deal with these unfortunate disruptions to the students' sense of safety and their learning environment," the email said. "I would also like to thank the Wauwatosa Police Department for their diligence in their investigation."

Ertl said "there are no winners in these situations."

"The decision to make a threat against the well-being of students and staff in our School District will result in significant consequences when they are caught," the email said.

"The Wauwatosa Police Department has an excellent track record of finding the people responsible for these types of threats over the past 10 years."
