Wauwatosa East's Berlin, Walls earn Now All-Suburban honors
Both named honorable mention for their contributions this season
The 2015-16 Now All-Suburban girls basketball team was announced this week, and two Wauwatosa East players earned honorable mention honors.
The All-Suburban Team is made up of a dozen first-teamers from the 23 area schools that we cover.
Senior guard Bailey Berlin and senior forward Maya Walls — Miss Outside and Miss Inside — earned the honorable mention honors, representing the Wauwatosa area schools. Both players earned high honorable mention honors on the Greater Metro all-conference team.
Berlin
Berlin was an excellent player despite her 5-foot-3-inch status. She could drive, shoot 3s and pass, and her defense wasn't too bad for someone of her stature.
She led the team with an 11.0 points per game average, hitting 69 of 178 shots (39 percent) and 21 of 72 from beyond the arc (29 percent). She converted 79 of 118 from the free-throw line. She grabbed 3.0 rebounds per game, averaged 3.2 assists per game and had 22 steals.
Walls
The 5-10 forward improved her all-around game this year, scoring 7.8 points and a team-leading 5.0 rebounds per game. She added 17 steals and 13 blocks.
Walls' scoring came from all over the floor. She shot an impressive 55 percent when she took the ball to the hoop but surprisingly hit 31 percent from the 3-point arc. She was 25-for-38 (66 percent) from the free-throw line.
Walls was also one of the Red Raiders' better defensive players.
