The Wauwatosa East boys track and field team took part in the Madison West Relays on April 2 and used it as a learning experience.

Stevens Point won the event with 54 points, while the Red Raiders finished 23rd out of 28 teams.

"We scored 7 points in two events with a stripped-down squad due to spring-break travel plans," coach Mackenzie Laska said. "This allowed guys to run events and step up into relay spots that they normally would not have the opportunity to compete in. I was pleased with the effort and performances I saw from many of our athletes."

Senior Dan Scallon was the lone medal winner for the team, winning his heat in a personal record 23.49 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which placed him fourth in the event.

The 400-meter relay team of senior Ryan Kelnhofer, sophomore Jeremiah King, senior Colin Bertz and Scallon placed seventh to score points in 46.19 seconds.

Senior Jermaine Copeland threw 47 feet, 101/2 inches to advance to the finals in the ninth position, which earned him three more throws, where he came close to but was unable to better his position. Kyire Crape threw a personal record of 39-111/2 to finish 31st.

Taysion Crape and Ali Sabree advanced to the semifinal round of the 55 high hurdles with 8.28 and 8.49, respectively. Crape bettered his time to 8.24 in the semifinal. They finished 15th and 22nd out of 38 runners. This was a PR for Sabree.

King and Kelnhofer advanced to the semifinal round of the 55 dash with 6.92 and 6.94, respectively. King matched his prelim performance with another 6.92 in the semifinal to finish 17th, while Kelnhofer's 6.98 in the semis earned him 23rd out of 44 runners.

Matt Doberstein ran 2:18.32 in the 800 run to place 15th, Jack Sveum ran 10:31.23 in the 3,200 run to finish 15th and Faisal Bartlett ran a PR 4:55.92 in the 1,600 run to place 16th.

The 3,200 relay team of Marquez Green, Joe Paetsch, Adam Schell and Nathan Green finished 13th in 8:47.05. Schell ran a PR 2:16.1, and Nathan Green matched his indoor best with 2:06.8 on the anchor leg.

The 800 relay team of T. Crape, Kelnhofer, King, Scallon was 14th in 1:37.74.

The 1,600 relay team of Marquez Green, Sam Stelloh, Schell and Nathan Green finished 16th in 3:43.84 with Marquez Green turning in a PR split and Nathan Green turning in an indoor-best split.
