The Wauwatosa East girls track and field team finished seventh out of eight teams at the Greater Metro Conference Indoor Championship on April 5 at West Allis Central.
"Every point counted in a meet that the team scored 58 points and placed seventh but was only 7 points out of third," coach Glen Gardiner said. "The girls side of the conference is the most competitive it has been since I have been at East. Across the board, the teams are tough in every event, especially in the distance events."
Brookfield Central (171) won the event, and Brookfield East (167) was second as they dominated the meet. Sussex Hamilton (65), Menomonee Falls (62), West Allis Hale (62), Divine Savior Holy Angels (61), Wauwatosa East (58) and West Allis Central (12) followed.
Freshman Brooklyn Blackburn had a big day, taking second in the 55 high hurdles (9.00), a freshman indoor school record, and he ranked ninth in the state in the most current honor roll.
She also placed third in the 55 low hurdles (8.90), a new varsity indoor school record. The previous record was set by Sarah Krenck in 1995 (8.9 hand timed, 9.04 conversion to FAT).
Blackburn was also second in the high jump (5-feet) and sixth in the 200 (29.29).
Junior Kacy Fisher finished third in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 29.95 seconds.
The 1,600-meter relay took third place (4:34.11) behind sophomore Dom Evans, junior Toni Bonds, freshman Abby Wood and Fisher.
