Wauwatosa police to honor 100th anniversary with open house, tribute

The Wauwatosa Police Department turned 100 years old April 18 and come summer, the organization will invite the public to help honor the occasion.

The police department will hold an open house for the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 in conjunction with the "Windows Into Wauwatosa" event. There will be station tours, equipment delays and birthday cake. The public is invited to check windowsintowauwatosa.org for further updates.

Local police officers will also wear an optional commemorative shoulder patch and a badge throughout 2016 and 2017 to celebrate the anniversary. The commemorative shoulder patch pays homage to the department's very first uniform patch — a royal blue triangle with the words "Wauwatosa Police" surrounding the Wisconsin state seal.

The commemorative badge is a near replica of the department's first, but there is an addition of a banner across the top of the badge highlighting the 100th anniversary.

Further, the department is in the process of installing a Law Enforcement Tribute on the grounds of the main facility, 1700 N. 116th St. Completion of the project is scheduled for this summer.
