The Wauwatosa East girls track and field team finished fifth at the Midwest Orthopedic/Wheaton Franciscan 41st annual Lady Spartan Invitational on April 13 at Brookfield East.

Tosa East finished up the week April 16 at Pulaski for the Milwaukee United Relays and had eight top-two finishes.

"Good performances all-around at our first outdoor track meet of the season," Tosa East coach Glen Gardiner said of the Lady Spartan Invite to begin the week.

Freshman Brooklyn Blackburn led the way again for the Red Raiders. She set a freshman record by winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.74 seconds, which is ranked third in the state.

She was also fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.94, which is ranked 11th in the state.

The 4x200-meter relay team of freshman Abby Wood, senior Kirsten Maxwell, sophomore Melina Paul and sophomore Trinity Mayes placed second in a time of 1 minute, 55.65 seconds.

Junior Andrea Mabie placed third in the 800 run with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 31.07 seconds.

The Red Raiders had four winners and four second-place finishes as they nipped King, 77-76.

Blackburn ran a 15.65 in her race, which is currently ranked fourth on the state honor roll and lowers her own freshman outdoor school record in the event.

The 4x800 relay took first (10:38.23) behind Green, Alice Farr, Fisher and Fee, and the distance medley was first (14:09.25) with Fisher, Green, Malia Bavuso and Janet Fee

The 4x100 relay was second (54.27) behind Trinity Mayes, Olivia Metz, Neshae Morries-Thurman and Chloe Tome, and the 4x200 relay was second (1:49.01) behind Blackburn, Toni Bonds, Hannah and Wood (ninth in state).

Also taking second was the 4x400 relay (4:13.83) behind Bonds, Brooks, Blackburn and Melina Paul (12th in state).

The 4x1,600 relay took second (24:38.45), with Klein, Cora Vogt, Yvette Danisewicz and Nastia Roeder all running PRs.

"The season is shaping up to be one of the better ones we have had in a long time," Gardiner said. "We have numerous entries on the state honor roll list, something to be proud of for sure, but there is more work to be done if we want to get the state meet or set PRs at the end of the season."
