Wauwatosa West softball team holds on to nip Port Washington

West began the week by getting whipped by Greenfield, 15-1, on April 26, and New Berlin Eisenhower, 15-3, on April 27, with both games at home.

Adie Davies struggled in four innings in the loss to Greenfield. In the loss to Eisenhower, Melissa Biefeld singled, doubled and had an RBI, as West managed six hits and starter Kaitlyn Nimmer lost but pitched five innings.

But in the final three games of the week, all nonconference tilts, West managed a 1-2 record as the Trojans' bats came to life.

Waukesha South

The Blackshirts rallied to win a 14-10 decision at Tosa West on April 29, overcoming an 8-3 deficit after three innings. South scored five runs in the fourth and two runs in each of the final three innings.

Davies pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing 14 hits and eight walks, and fanned six batters. Biefeld had three singles and two RBIs, while Margaret Radske and Nicole Mystrow each had three singles and an RBI. West also had 14 hits in the game but only managed four walks.

Port Washington

Coach Nick Heiting's crew then split a doubleheader at Port Washington, losing, 12-5, and then winning, 14-13.

In the first game, trailing 4-0, West scored twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. But then the Pirates exploded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more runs in the sixth.

Nimmer worked five innings and walked six players. Alli Schumacher singled and drove in a run (only hitting highlight listed).

Then in the nightcap, West took a 9-0 lead through three innings before Port scored seven runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to two runs. But the Trojans scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the six for a 14-7 lead. The Pirates managed a run in the sixth and five more in the seventh before Davies slammed the door.

Davies pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing 16 hits and nine walks and fanning three batters. West batters banged out 14 hits and worked two Port pitchers for eight walks, but they fanned 11 times.

McKenzie Brophey singled three times and drove in three runs, while Radske and Mystrow each had two singles and two RBIs.
