MC Chargers to play football at Hart Park

After a year off, the city of Wauwatosa will have a semipro football team to cheer for once again.

After the Wauwatosa Spartans folded their tents in 2014, the Milwaukee County (MC) Chargers' first-year team will be playing at Hart Park for the 2016 season.

The Chargers were formerly known as the West Allis Scorpions, where they won the 2015 IAFL Championship before changing names and moving to the Mid-States Football League. All the core players from the championship team are on the Chargers, along with some great new rookies and veterans of semipro football.

"We are more than just some guys playing football," offensive coordinator and marketing director Dre Green said. "We want and enjoy doing things within the community so that we can be looked at by the kids as role models. We are looking to taking all the efforts that we made in West Allis and applying them to Wauwatosa and Milwaukee County, hence the name (MC Chargers).

"Our first event of 2016 will be a Boys Night Out in West Allis on May 20. We want to be the premier team both on and off the field in the area, but we are going to focus a lot of our efforts in the Tosa community."

The Chargers play a 10-game schedule, five away and five home, along with two preseason games on May 14 (at Custer Stadium) and June 4 (Minneapolis, Minnesota).

The home games will be against teams from the Wisconsin area. The league is divided into two divisions with six teams in Wisconsin and six in Illinois.

The first game is June 25 against the Door County Destroyers team.
