Finishes runner-up in freestyle competition

Wauwatosa wrestler Justin Folley continued his success on the mat Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, in the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation's State Freestyle Tournament.

Folley finished runner-up in Saturday's freestyle tournament to Jeremy Schoenherr. Then on Sunday, he competed in the WWF State Greco-Roman Tournament and was crowned the state champion.

His final match in Greco, he avenged his loss in the freestyle finals by throwing Schoenherr in the final 10 seconds to earn the 8-6 victory. Schoenherr was a D-3 state WIAA champion this past February.

Folley now qualifies to compete in the National Tournament this coming July in Fargo, North Dakota.

Here is a breakdown of his performances in each event.

Freestyle Junior 132

Folley scored 22.50 team points. Championship round 1: won by tech fall (10-0) over Nick Armstrong (Askren Wrestling Academy); quarterfinal: won by tech fall (20-7) over Trent Leon (Kaukauna Grappling Ghosts); semifinal: won by tech fall (22-12) over Drew Scharenbrock (Advance School of Wrestling). First-place match: Schoenherr (WGW/NE) won by tech fall (13-2).

Greco-Roman Junior 132

Folley scored 25.50 team points. Championship round 1: received a bye; quarterfinal: won by fall (0:37) over Draven Sigmund (Askren Wrestling Academy); semifinal: won by tech fall (10-0) over Drew Scharenbrock (Advance School of Wrestling); first-place match: won by decision (8-6) over Schoenherr (WGW/NE) (Dec 8-6)

Other Tosa wrestlers who also competed but didn't place were Lorry Venturi and Dayton Lewis. Both of them went 2-2 on Saturday.
