Wauwatosa East girls soccer team crushes West Allis Central, 11-0

Red Raiders later tie Nicolet

May 18, 2016

The Wauwatosa East girls soccer team went 1-0-1 last week, winning the Greater Metro Conference match and tying a nonconference foe.

The Red Raiders stretched their winning streak to three games last week, defeating West Allis Central, 11-0, on the road.

Senior captain Catherine Carter started the scoring in the fifth minute on a penalty kick after senior Chyna Sincere had drawn a foul inside the Bulldog penalty area. One minute later, Sincere assisted on the Raiders' second goal by sophomore Elyse Reagan.

In the same minute of play, sophomore Liz Bueckers scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Evan Knauss to make the score, 3-0, six minutes into the match.

"It's important to come out and assert yourself against a team that struggles to generate offense," coach Eric Dale said. "You want to send an early message that you're not going to sit back and relax but get down to business right away, and that seemed to be the key for us Wednesday night."

No let up

The Raiders tallied three more goals before half with senior Riley Johnson scoring off an assist from freshman Sydney Halstead, senior Lauren Minette scoring an unassisted goal and sophomore defender Kyra Meach notching her first goal of her varsity career in the 44th minute off an assist from Bueckers for a 6-0 lead.

East continued its torrid goal-scoring pace in the second half when Knauss scored in the 47th minute off an assist from Sincere. Sincere would then add a goal of her own one minute later with the assist going to senior Anne Oleniczak. Carter and Johnson both scored their second goals of the match in the 49th and 55th minutes, respectively, with assists going to Sincere yet again, and the other one going to junior Jordyn Summerfield. Sophomore Crosbie Kowalski added the final goal of the match unassisted in the 59th minute.

The Raiders have outscored their last three opponents by a score of 17-0, notching three defensive shutouts in the process.

Nicolet tie

Tosa East traveled to Nicolet (9-4-2) on May 13 to play the Knights. Both teams did all their scoring in the first half, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Reagan got the Red Raiders on the board first, scoring at the 5-minute, 53-second mark. But the Knights countered with a goal by Holly Rossman off a past from Josie Kelderman at the 29:25 mark. Then Kelderman scored at the 32:20 mark thanks to an assist from Sydney Stelzer. But then at the 38:45 mark, Bueckers tied the match, and that's the way the score stood.
