EAST TENNIS

The Wauwatosa East boys tennis team fell to Eisenhower, 7-0, on May 9 and second-ranked Brookfield East, 7-0, on May 12.

Losing scores against the Lions were Jordan Crump(7-5, 6-1), Michael Lockhart(6-3, 6-1), Evan Christopherson(6-1, 6-1) and Alex Hayek(6-2, 6-3) at singles.

Liam McMahon/Josh Erdtmann(6-0, 6-3), Mitchell Weinberg-Kinsey/Jacob Muenzenberger (7-6(1), 6-0) and Sam Kodzik/Vince Teofilo(6-1, 6-1) lost at doubles.

Against second-ranked Brookfield East, Crump (6-1, 6-3), Lockhart (7-6(6), 6-0), Christopherson (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and Hayek (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) lost in singles.

Weinberg-Kinsey/Erdtmann (6-0, 6-0), McMahon/ Muenzenberger (6-0, 6-0) and Teofilo/Kodzik (no score reported) lost their doubles matches.

WEST TENNIS

The Wauwatosa West boys tennis team lost to New Berlin Eisenhower and then defeated Cudahy in the crossover match.

In the 6-1 loss at Eisenhower on May 11, No. 1 singles Nick Price(6-2, 6-2) was the only winner. After being rained out on May 10, the matched was moved back a day.

"We had an OK week. I was hoping we would produce a better result against Ike," coach Kosta Zervas said. "They have a very nice team, top to bottom. I thought we would be able to compete with them, especially at the double spots. We had opportunities in many of the first sets but lost confidence as the match progressed. Hopefully we'll be able to make some adjustments and be ready for the conference tournament this week."

West then hosted and defeated Cudahy, 7-0, in the crossover match. Singles winners were Price (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Alec Lau(6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Akshay Bakshi(6-1, 6-2) and No. 4 Ethan Boekenhauer(2-0, 2-0, won by default).

On the doubles side, No. 1 doubles Quinn Barkow/Zach Schumacher(6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Neils Peters/Bennett Inman(6-1, 6-1) and No. 3 Danny Kuehn/Jacob Lueck (6-0, 6-0) all walked away with victories.

"Cudahy was a tough one to gauge," Zervas said. "It's hard to see how well we're playing when your opponents are struggling. Often times, players can play down to the level of their opponents. Thankfully that didn't happen against Cudahy. We were able to take care of business and come away confident with our result.

WEST BOYS TRACK/FIELD

The Wauwatosa West boys finished eighth out of 11 teams at the annual Big Man Invite on May 11 at Homestead in their only action where the score was kept.

West scored 18 points: 14 in the shot put and 4 in the discus throw. Kimberly won with 65 points: 37 in shot put and 28 in discus. Brookfield East was second with 56 points, scoring 34 in shot put and 22 in discus throw in the 11-team tourney.

One player scored all 18 points for Tosa West —Javaree Jackson.

Jackson tossed the shot 55 feet, 3 inches to finish fifth in the finals and score 14 points for the Trojans.

In the discus throw, Jackson threw it 136-6 in the finals to score 4 points and finish 13th out of 16.

After getting rained out in the Richmond/Erickson meet on May 10, the Wauwatosa West boys participated in the West Allis Hale Invite on May 13. However, due to terrible weather and a timing equipment breakdown, no official results were reported.

WEST BOYS/GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Because of poor weather and timing issue, there is little to report on the local track teams this week except for the Big Man Invitational at Homestead (see previous story).

After getting rained out in the Richmond/Erickson meet on May 10, the Wauwatosa West boys and girls participated in the West Allis Hale Invite on May 13. However, due to terrible weather and a timing equipment breakdown, no official results were reported.

"The meet was completed, which is a miracle in itself in a driving rain," West girls coach Jack LoPresti said. "Tough conditions for all. We had some excellent performances, though."

Anna Roghanran the 1,600 meters in a hand-time of 5 minutes, 19.23 seconds. That was a personal best for her.

"She ran great and took second in the 1,600," LoPresti reported.

On the boys side, Jeremiah Cashhad a personal best in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 4.31 seconds.

"He ran awesome," LoPresti said. "It was a huge personal best."

Christian Jacksonalso had a personal best in the 800 run in 2 minutes, 12.31 seconds.

EAST BOYS/GIRLS TRACK/FIELD

Here is the information coach Mackenzie Laska was nice enough to provide on the boys.

The freshman 4x800-meter set a school record with a time of 8 minutes, 43.52 seconds behind the efforts of Andrew Casey, Bryce Protz, Max Finco and Henry Wellensteinand finished third in the event.

Dan Scallonhad a big day in the 200-meter dash and anchored the winning 4x100 relay with Ryan Kelnhofer, Lewis Hueninkand Jeremiah King.

There was good news on Saturday, May 14, as the Raiders won the junior varsity conference championship meet with 164 points.

Individual event winners were Matt Kubicek(110 hurdles); Eli Werner, who had personal records in both his winning events (1,600 run, 3,200 run); Mark Michna(400 dash); andJoe Paetsch(800 run).

The one winning relay was the 4x100 relay behind Logan Riemer, Amie Williams-Stribling, Scott Henry and Cole Tate.

WEST SOFTBALL

It was a tough week for the Wauwatosa West softball team, as the Trojans were outscored 35-0 in two games, one a Woodland Conference West contest.

The losses dropped their record to 6-16 and 4-9 in league play for fourth place out of six teams coming into the week.

They opened the week with a rainout against Pius XI on May 10 but then took a 16-0 loss to Waukesha North on May 11 at the William Oliver Youth Sports Complex.

The game was close for three innings, as the Northstars led only 4-0. They had scored three runs in the second and a run in the third before exploding for 12 runs in the fourth inning and sending West home after five innings.

Freshman Olivia Bosettiworked 32/3 innings, allowing 12 hits and four walks to get the loss. Senior Alli Schumacherpitched one-third of an inning and walked five Northstars.

Tori Froh pitched a five-inning complete game, walking two Trojans and fanning six to get the win. Froh also singled three times and drove in four runs to lead the attack.

Then on May 12 at first-place New Berlin West, the Trojans dropped a 19-0 decision.

Big innings did in Tosa West once again, as the Trojans allowed 12 runs in the third inning and seven runs in the fourth for another five-inning game.

Junior Melissa Biefeldand senior Lucy Janiszewskieach had a hit for the Trojans. Freshmen Adie Daviesworked three innings, and Kaitlyn Nimmerpitched the final inning.

Maddie Minik had a triple and four RBIs; Cheyenne Sowinski drove in three runs; and Leah Marrari and Abbey Stoltenberg each had three hits and two RBIs as the Trojans allowed 16 hits and five walks.
