Wauwatosa West Trojans defeats New Berlin West, Shorewood

June 8, 2016

The Wauwatosa West baseball team went 2-2 on the week, splitting two Woodland West games with New Berlin West, beating a Woodland East team (Shorewood) and losing a non-conference title to Nicolet.

New Berlin West

The Tosa West Trojans baseball team lost, 13-2, to New Berlin West on May 31 in New Berlin despite Logan Scharf's two-hit day at the dish. They won, 5-4, the next day at Breitlow Field.

Adam Fritz recorded the win for New Berlin West, allowing three hits, four walks, two strikeouts and two runs over five innings.

"We struggled to throw strikes, which led to a big first inning for New Berlin West." coach Jason Borski said. "You cannot afford to give a good hitting team like New Berlin West extra base runners."

West bounced back to beat New Berlin West, 5-4, on June 1 at Breitlow Field.

After falling behind by five runs in the second inning, The Vikings were never able to get over the hump. New Berlin West scored four runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Corey Liebherr, an error, and two ground outs.

Jake Hronek was solid at the plate for the Trojans, going 2-for-3 and a run scored. He singled in the second and third innings.

William Jushka racked up 10 strikeouts in the Trojans win. Jushka allowed three earned runs on two hits and two walks over seven innings.

"Will looked dominamt most of the game," coach Jason Borski said. "He got into a little trouble in the sixth inning with a combination of some walks and errors, but was able to get out of the inning and then shut the Vikings down in the seventh. I was very impressed with his command. He looked dominant most of the game. Except for one inning, our defense played well behind him."

Tosa West never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring five runs on a two-run double by Ryan Greener and two singles by LeRoy Coleman and JJ Morgan.

Shorewood

Greenberg's big triple and tough pitching, sparked the Trojans to a 4-1 victory in seven innings over Shorewood on June 3 at Breitlow Field.

Greenberg had a triple and also recorded the win, allowing one run over four innings, striking out two, walking three and gave up two hits. Scharf put away the final nine outs to record the save.

"This was a nice team win," Borski said. "Jake Greenberg bounced back nicely keeping the ball in the zone and letting our defense work for him. He also had a very nice game offensively with a triple and he stole home on a throw back to the pitcher."

Nicolet

The Trojans lost, 12-7, at Nicolet on June 4 to end the week, as they couldn't put enough hits together to overcome eight first-inning runs by the Knights. Coleman and Tyler Schackmuth both had two hits on the day for West.

"Poor defense, walks and errors led to a lot of runs," Borski said. "This game was uncharacteristic of the baseball we have been playing up to this point."
