Wauwatosa East soccer team names Bueckers as MVP
Red Raiders have six All-GMC selections
The Wauwatosa East girls soccer team finished fourth in the Greater Metro Conference this season with a 3-3-1 record.
Their overall record was 13-7-3, coming on the heels of a season that saw them win 18 matches. Their overall record for the past two seasons is 31-11-6.
The season included wins against some highly-ranked opponents, some of which were playing in the WIAA sectionals last week.
Tosa East handled Whitefish Bay, 2-0, early in the season, and Bay is ranked fourth in the state in Division 2. East also beat Homestead, currently ranked third in the state in Division 2, by a convincing 3-0 score.
Other quality wins against ranked opponents throughout the year came against Cedarburg (2-1) and Sussex Hamilton (2-1). The Raiders also defeated the second-place finisher in the Woodland Conference, New Berlin Eisenhower (3-0).
Awards and honors
Team captains were Lily Brock, Catherine Carter and Kamrynn Lamontagne.
Senior Scholar Athletes were Brock, Carter, Lamontagne, Anne Oleniczak, Clara Kuranz and Riley Johnson.
East had six All-Greater Metro Conference performers, including Liz Bueckers (16 goals, 11 assists) as a first-team midfielder and Clara Kuranz as a second-team defender.
East had four honorable mention picks in forward Chyna Sincere, midfielder Evan Knauss, defender Lauren Minette and Brock at goalkeeper.
Coach Eric Dale had three team awards.
The Most Valuable Player Award went to Bueckers, the Most Improved Player Award was earned by Minette and the Coaches/Raider Award went to Kuranz.
Dale will lose nine seniors to graduation: Brock, Carter, Johnson, Kuranz, Lamontagne, Minette, Oleniczak, Sincere and Ali Herbst.
