Wauwatosa East baseball team finishes week with three straight losses

The Wauwatosa East baseball team has lost four of five games and three in a row coming into this week.

The Red Raiders are 4-8 overall with a 3-5 record, tied for seventh in the Greater Metro Conference.

After winning their first game of the week, the Red Raiders were outscored 28-1 in the last three games.

West Allis Hale

The Red Raiders started the week with a Greater Metro Conference 9-3 win over West Allis Hale on June 6 at Breitlow Field.

"We took advantage of mistakes today," coach Peter Schwichtenberg said. "Our guys were hungry on the bases, and our bats found holes. We have been putting together good swings for a while, and we found gaps today."

Tosa used a six-run fourth inning to put the game away. Jeff Mason got the win, working four innings and allowing two hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Isaac Martin pitched well in relief, working the final three innings and allowing one hit, one run, one earned run and a walk.

Ricky Serrano singled, doubled and drove in a run; Aaron Plaisted doubled and drove in three runs; and Mason helped his own cause with a single and a double. Dan Scallon banged out a single and used that track speed to score three times, and Jake Halstead scored twice and singled.

The Raiders were scary on the bases, stealing 10 of 11 bases.

Halstead stole three bases, and Blake Kratzer stole two.

Marquette

East lost to the Hilltoppers on the road at MATC-South Campus, 10-1, on June 7.

MUHS decided the game quickly when the Hilltoppers scored nine runs in the second inning. East tried to come back but put themselves in a hard hole to dig out of.

Tosa East batted well with eight hits as Mason scored a run and had two hits and Spencer Michaelis added two hits.

"I was really happy with the way we fought," Schwichtenberg said. "We were down 9-1 in the second, and the kids had every reason to quit, and they didn't. Though it doesn't show up in the score, we battled in a 10-1 loss. I was very happy with our at-bats."

Franklin

The Red Raiders dropped a 9-0 decision to Franklin on June 9 at Breitlow Field as they were outhit, 10-4, and ruined by a big inning for the second straight game.

A solid outing from Michaelis on the mound was spoiled by an eight-run Franklin fifth inning, where several balls found holes.

"Spencer was cruising through four, and then we got hurt by a big inning," Schwichtenberg said. "If we start limiting the damage, we will be in good shape."

Martin pitched the final innings in solid relief, and Scallon had two of East's four hits.

Menomonee Falls

East dropped their third straight lopsided game, losing, 9-0, at Menomonee Falls.

The Indians were leading 4-0 when they scored five runs in the sixth inning to put the game away. They outhit Tosa East, 8-2.

Plaisted pitched four innings, walked three and fanned five in a losing cause. Mason had one of the team's two hits.

"Aaron battled for us without his best stuff and did a very nice job," Schwichtenberg said.

Falls' Ty Weber, who was drafted 34th by the Cincinnati Reds, had two hits, drove in a run and tossed a complete-game win, fanning nine strikeouts.

"At the plate, we had great approaches against Weber," Schwichtenberg said. "We didn't back down, and we had a ton of hard contact."
