Wauwatosa West baseball team drops four in a row

June 15, 2016

The Wauwatosa West baseball team fell to 4-5, with three losses last week, and 3-3 in the Woodland West Division. They have a four-game losing streak coming into this week, ruining their 4-1 start.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead but were unable to hold on and lost, 4-2, to Pewaukee on June 8 at the WCTC field.

Jacob Greenberg was solid at the plate for West, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. He had an inside-the-park home run in the first inning to get the Trojans on the board early.

Will Jushka ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just 42/3 innings, walked three, struck out six and allowed four unearned runs.

Jake Hronek had another solid day at the plate for the Trojans, as he was 2-for-3 with an RBI double, but it wasn't enough to get the Trojans past second-ranked Pewaukee.

Pewaukee didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning when it scored on a two-run double by Shaun Campbell and an error.

"Our two miscues led to all of Pewaukee's runs," coach Jason Borski said. "Pewaukee's led to none of our runs. We had this game and gave it back. With a quality team like Pewaukee, you cannot give them anything."

Pewaukee

Tosa West won the hit battle, 10-9, on June 9 but couldn't push enough runs across to get the win, instead losing, 6-5, in seven innings to Pewaukee at Breitlow Field.

"We played our best game of the season and came up just a little short," Borski said."

Will Jushka put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Trojans, doubling in the second and third innings.

Nick Price ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted three innings, walked one, struck out two and allowed four runs.

Pewaukee went up for good in the second, scoring two runs on two singles.

The Trojans put up one run in each of the second, fourth and sixth. In the second, Tosa West scored on an RBI single by Hronek, plating Jushka.

Pewaukee matched its two-run third inning with two more in the fourth.

Two Trojans' runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the third, making the score 4-3. A two-run double by Jushka triggered West's comeback. The Trojans' threat came to an end when Hronek grounded out.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the sixth, Tosa West faced just a 6-5 deficit. An RBI single by LeRoy Coleman set off the rally, but Morgan lined out to left to end the inning.

Brown Deer

The Trojans looked to be in control, up by five runs in the sixth inning, but Brown Deer came back to grab a 7-6 win on June 9 at Brown Deer High School.

Jacob Greenberg put together a nice outing, stopping Brown Deer on one hit, no earned runs, walking three and fanning seven during his four innings of work.

Neither team scored until the fourth when the Trojans got on the board thanks to a sacrifice fly by Jake Hronek, an RBI single by Myles Fish, a sacrifice fly by Tyler Schackmuth and an RBI single by Ernie LaSpisa.

"After our best game of the season, we came out, played a terrible game," Borski said. "I give Brown Deer a lot of credit for never giving up on the game."
