Pool at Hoyt Park running again following mid-week mechanical failure

June 17, 2016

The Pool at Hoyt Park was back up and running Friday after a mechanical failure in the pool's basement earlier in the week caused the pool to start draining into the basement and flood much of the equipment.

"We are fortunate that this mechanical failure did not cause more damage," said Kit Slawski, Executive Director of the Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool in a statement. "It's been an exhausting couple of days filled with lots of work but we're looking forward to be back open as soon as possible for all of our swimmers."

The Landing at Hoyt Park, the beer garden adjacent to the pool, will be open as scheduled through Sunday.

According to a Facebook post Friday, the pool reopened for public swimming, although crews were still working on the in-water play structure.

Milwaukee County lifeguards and restoration crews drained the basement and restored most of the equipment, according to a release.
