Friends of Center Street Park will launch new barbecue event July 3

June 28, 2016

A new barbecue event will be coming to Center Street Park in time for the July Fourth weekend.

From 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 3, The Friends of Center Street Park will host its inaugural Q & Brew event at the park, between Center and Clarke streets with a main entrance at 6420 W. Clarke St.

The event will feature a 14 cook competition and live music at 6 p.m. by local modern folk and indie rock band The Belle Weather. Beer from Big Head Brewing Company will be available from 4 to 9 p.m.

The idea for the event came from the East Tosa BBQ Appreciation Society, an informal group of neighborhood residents that gather monthly at community parks to share their latest barbecue recipes. As the group has grown, they've looked for ways to spread their love of barbecue, according to a news release.

Tickets for sampling the barbecue competition, including sides by Tall Guy and a Grill, can be purchased in advance at qandbrew.org. Tickets are limited and the public tasting will begin at 5 p.m.
